Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO)'s Fair Housing Project will host a free, hour-long webinar on Friday, July 31 at 12:30 p.m. It will discuss the current state of homeownership and housing in Vermont (including racial inequities), describe how to access community housing data, and will share resources for homeowners affected by the pandemic, including the Vermont COVID Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program.

Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) is in the process of updating the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) for 2022 to 2023. The Agency sought initial public comment on the plan in February. As part of its continued public engagement VHFA will hold four virtual informational sessions in August and September for the public to ask questions and provide further feedback on proposed QAP updates. 

Vermont Legal Aid will host a free, 30-minute virtual town hall on Thursday, July 23 at 10 a.m. It will discuss the new financial help homeowners affected by COVID-19 can receive through the Vermont Mortgage Assistance Program as well as other programs for homeowners who may be facing foreclosure. VLA Attorney Grace Pazdan will talk about how the program works, who is eligible for assistance, and how to apply, and will answer questions live. Pre-registration is not required. 

The Local Support and Community Action Team of the Governor's Economic Recovery Task Force is launching a series of virtual forums for every county across the state. The forums, facilitated by the Vermont Council on Rural Development, will allow Vermonters to meet with a team of state, federal, business, and non-profit leaders and share challenges and ideas for community recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and connect to others working to respond, recover, and build long-term resilience.

Homebuyers - especially first-time homebuyers - usually have questions about where to start and where to find special programs. To answer these and other questions, VHFA is hosting a one-hour webinar to explain how VHFA programs can help eligible homebuyers. Topics will include:

• VHFA programs and benefits
• VHFA eligibility requirements
• How to find a participating lender and get started
• Where to start if homebuyers are not quite ready to contact a lender

Mental health update– June 9

This webinar will educate participants on mental health and mental illnesses, explore the role that trauma plays in mental health, as well as the stigma that mental health holds in society. The session will provide tips for maintaining good mental health, teach participants how to identify someone who may be struggling, and how to best support them and connect them to resources. The session will also explore the latest research and treatment options.

Focusing, Collaborating, and Supporting Autonomy: Key Strategies for Effective Change Conversations

New England Resident Service Coordinators, Inc. (NERSC) is hosting a virtual workshop led by Ali Hall (JD) that will teach participants skills and strategies to focus a shared agenda and exchange information in a style that is collaborative and supportive of autonomy, so that resident service professionals can create a positive climate for their residents’ success. Participants will have an opportunity to practice these skills and look at applied examples related to aging in place, reducing fall risk, engaging with families, and connecting with community resources.

Every other November after Election Day for the past 20 years, the Vermont Statewide Housing Conference has drawn hundreds of Vermonters interested in affordable housing together.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made the outlook for large events in 2020 highly uncertain. For this reason, the multi-agency committee responsible for planning this popular conference has decided not to proceed with the conference slated for November 2020.  

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston (FHLBB) is inviting the Vermont affordable housing community to attend an upcoming listening session for its Affordable Housing Program (AHP).

The State of Vermont’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is inviting the public to attend a series of community outreach meetings around the state to inform its upcoming HUD Consolidated Plan.
