The Vermont League of Cities and Town (VLCT) is currently accepting applications for its upcoming Welcoming and Engaging Communities Program, designed to foster municipal cultures that are healthy, thriving and supportive. In partnership with Vermont cultural transformation consultancy Abundant Sun, the program features transformative workshops, analytical insight and subsidized participation from VLCT.
Regional housing development funding sessions
VHFA is conducting a series of sessions around the state about housing development funding. Learn about new funding opportunities available and share how they can best help you overcome challenges to build and renovate affordable housing. Open to anyone interested in creating and preserving affordable housing, including small and aspiring developers.

Vermont Treasurer's Office makes historic investment in home building
On Wednesday, Governor Phil Scott and Treasurer Mike Pieciak announced a $55.5 million investment in housing, as part of the “10% in Vermont” local investment program.
VHFA will administer $50 million of these funds to construct or rehabilitate an estimated 1,000 homes over the next 2-3 years. The program will support the construction or rehabilitation of traditional affordable housing, market rate apartments, homeownership as well as housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. Additionally, reserves will be made available for households and housing impacted by this summer’s flooding.

Homelessness is a Housing Problem forum on July 24
Faced with housing problems only made worse by recent disastrous floods, Vermonters will have an opportunity to learn more and discuss causes of homelessness with state and national housing experts on Monday, July 24, at noon. The virtual policy forum will feature University of Washington Professor Gregg Colburn, author of the recently published book Homelessness is a Housing Problem.

A webinar on applying for the “10% in Vermont” local investment program will be held at noon on April 17, with applications for the program due June 1, 2023. The program was announced earlier this week by State Treasurer Mike Pieciak who was joined by VHFA’s executive director Maura Collins, state and local leaders and community members.

Innovative state program funds new homes for middle- and lower-income Vermont buyers
On Monday, the Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) Board of Commissioners awarded $14.2 million to 12 projects totaling 92 homes across eight counties as part of the Missing Middle-Income Homeownership Development Pilot Program (Missing Middle-Income Program). The program represents the largest single investment in the state’s history to create new homeownership opportunities. Signed into law by Governor Scott in June of 2022, the program was established by the Vermont Legislature with an initial investment of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
