September 28 is the Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition’s Annual Meeting, as well as its annual joint meeting with the Vermont Coalition to End Homelessness (VCEH), and the VCEH’s monthly meeting. As always, this year’s agenda is packed and exciting:
The ECOS (Environment, Community, Opportunity, & Sustainability) Project (www.ecosproject.com) includes municipalities, the State and a large number of organizations working to improve our community’s most important planning documents and implement the highest priority actions. The first phase of the ECOS Project is to review and improve the draft goals. Please visit http://ecosproject.com/goals to read more and submit comments on the goals.
The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board has invited Paul Bradley of ROC USA and Andy Danforth of the Cooperative Development Institute to Vermont to discuss a range of issues relevant to existing non-profit-owned mobile home parks and potential purchase opportunities, including:
Todd Litman of the Victoria Transport Policy Institute (VTPI) of Victoria, BC, Canada, will be the first expert speaker in the "Environment, Community, Opportunity, Sustainability" (ECOS) Speaker Series.
Todd's VTPI's founder and Executive Director. He's worked on numerous studies that evaluate transportation costs, benefits and innovations. His part of the team is currently working on the Transportation Study for Burlington's Downtown & Waterfront Plan.
As a follow-up to Gov. Shumlin's June 7 "Housing the Homeless Summit," the Agency of Human Services is seeking your comments.
The Agency has created a Web site to accept your comments about the summit and the topics covered.

The Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition is holding a reception for U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development Regional Administrator Barbara Fields, Monday, June 27 from 5 to 6 p.m.
The event takes place at Northgate Community Hall in Burlington.

About 140 people from across the state gathered in Montpelier for Gov. Peter Shumlin's Housing the Homeless summit yesterday.
Advocates said the state's focus should be on preventing homelessness and avoiding emergencies.
