Our friends at Vermont Housing & Conservation Board (VHCB) will receive a Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program (HOPWA) renewal grant for $1.43 million to continue a statewide HIV/AIDS housing and supportive services program.
The grant is one of 18 made nationwide by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). HUD awarded a total of $19.3 million.
The Vermont program consists of three components providing long-term rental assistance and short-term emergency housing, developing HIV/AIDS designated affordable housing units, and supporting the delivery of basic supportive services by regional AIDS service organizations.
The project integrates housing, health care, and a range of supportive services, into a single statewide delivery system, and will support 40 individuals annually with tenant-based rental assistance and 171 households with short-term rent, mortgage and utility assistance.
Additionally, 259 persons with HIV/AIDS will receive supportive services each year.
VHCB will partner in this project with a number of organizations: Vermont Committee for AIDS Resources, Education and Services; AIDS Project of Southern Vermont; IMANI Health Institute; and ACORN.
