Ten affordable apartments have been renovated and upgraded thanks to a variety of funders and construction professionals. VHFA provided both construction financing and housing credits. Improvements were made to the buildings’ drainage system and included constructing a new retaining wall—both of which were already tested by Tropical Storm Irene and held up well.
Other renovation activities included improving walkways and access, parking, energy improvements including insulation, a new efficient boiler system and solar domestic hot water, new siding, windows, doors, and interior rehabilitation of kitchens and bathrooms.
Depot II Apartments is comprised of one four-unit building for seniors and one six-unit building for families. All apartments have Section 8 rental assistance which makes the housing affordable for the residents. The owner is Depot II Housing Associates, L.P., a tax credit partnership consisting of The Housing Foundation Inc. as General Partner, and Northfield Savings Bank as Limited Partner. The General Contractor was Naylor & Breen Builders, Inc., and the architect was Edward Clark, NBF Architects, P.C. Other funders included Vermont Housing Conservation Board, HOME, Efficiency Vermont, Vermont Community Development Program, and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act energy funding. Vermont Fuel Efficiency Partnership, also provided efficiency funding, as well as energy analysis and advice.
