Hinesburg took a big step forward in becoming a part of the senior housing solution with the ribbon cutting and celebration of Kelley’s Field II on June 4th. The addition of 24 new and affordable apartments comes after two years of planning and waiting according to stakeholders who gathered for the community event. The site of the new apartments is adjacent to the 24 apartment-project called Kelley’s Field I.

Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA), along with developers Evernorth and Cathedral Square Corporation, joined residents of Kelley’s Field I and II, representatives from the Town of Hinesburg, contractors, and other supporters to recognize the project and acknowledge the need for more Vermont communities to invest in affordable and mixed income senior housing.
Sitting on 6 acres tucked away in an idyllic village setting, Kelley’s Field II features 23 one-bedroom and one two-bedroom energy-efficient apartments for adults 55+. Outside the modern 2-story building is a large pavilion with sitting areas, raised bed gardens, and an accessible walking path. Upon entering the building, residents and visitors see a large community room with a kitchen and dining area as well as ground floor laundry facilities and onsite access to a SASH coordinator, part-time nurse, and educational and recreational programming.
In a brief address to the community prior to the ribbon cutting, VHFA Executive Director Maura Collins noted the importance of building properties like Kelley’s Field II that embrace indoor and outdoor spaces. “On a day like today, I am thankful that very smart and thoughtful people make properties like this the gold standard,” said Collins who acknowledged the funders, contractor J.A. Morrisey, and Duncan Wisniewski Architects who helped make the project come to life.
In addition to a construction loan and federal tax credits provided by VHFA, Vermont Housing & Conservation Board, Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, Vermont Community Development Program, Mascoma Bank, Efficiency Vermont, the Town of Hinesburg, and others have supported the project.
Kelley’s Field is located close to shops and services in Hinesburg village and a quick drive to Williston, South Burlington, and Burlington. SSTA transportation is also available to and from the property. Eligibility and income requirements apply to residents who must be at least 55 years of age.
