At 12:15 pm Friday, June 13th, Congressman Peter Welch and Mayor Miro Weinberger will lead a public press conference about the critical link between the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and Vermont’s supply of affordable rental housing. The gathering will focus particularly on proposed legislation to strengthen housing credits as a tool for rehabilitating and constructing affordable housing.

More than 500 people gathered at the 16^th annual New England Resident Services Coordinators (NERSC) last week at the Mount Washington Hotel. This year’s conference featured a Roaring 20’s party where Doug Hemmings of Maloney Properties won the Best Male Costume award (pictured at top left).

As Vermont’s housing finance agency, VHFA has been accepted into HUD’s 2014 physical-inspection pilot program.

Highgate Apartments in Barre recently hosted the 2-week Highgate Funnery Shakespeare Camp.  Eighteen children ages 10 to 15 from Highgate Apartments and nearby Green Acre Apartments worked very hard to prepare a performance of Macbeth, arguably one of Shakespeare’s darkest and most demanding plays.

She described her recent trip to the Himalayan mountains including what it's like to fly in a hot air balloon over Mt. Everest and ski off a 14,000 foot mountain!

The 15th annual New England Resident Services Coordinators (NERSC) conference was held last week in Brewster, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The conference drew record attendance with more than 400 participants, even from outside New England.

New guidance released last week by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) reinforces the Fair Housing Act requirement that certain multifamily housing be designed and constructed so that it is accessible to persons with disabilities.

Every year landlords are required to provide each of their tenants with a completed Landlord Certificate (LC-142) by January 31 if they have 2 or more residential units or upon request if they have only 1 residential unit, according to recent guidance from the VT Department of Taxes.

A new registry listing all Springfield apartment buildings was proposed Monday night, according to the March 26, 2013 Barre Montpelier Time Argus.
