Renters in Chittenden County are more likely than renters in virtually any other New England county to be shouldered with unaffordable housing costs, according to a recent report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Fifty-eight percent of Chittenden County’s renter households pay more than 30 percent of their income for housing. Only in tiny Barnstable County on Cape Cod is rental cost burden as prevalent as in Chittenden County.
