About 140 people from across the state gathered in Montpelier for Gov. Peter Shumlin's Housing the Homeless summit yesterday.
Advocates said the state's focus should be on preventing homelessness and avoiding emergencies.

Housing Vermont presented two awards at its September meeting of its Board of Directors: Paul Stewart received the Michael M. Richardson Award; Marty Martinez received the Mile Jensen Award.
The Michael M. Richardson Award recognizes outstanding leadership, volunteer commitment, and the contribution of resources that enhance Housing Vermont’s ability to provide permanently affordable housing for Vermonters.
VHFA has been hired by the Vermont Agency of Human Services (AHS) to write the state's 10-year plan to end homelessness.
VHFA expects to spend five to six months researching, writing, soliciting feedback and making final revisions to the report. We plan to release it during the next legislative season.
