Brattleboro’s Canal and Main building recognized as national smart growth role model
The Canal and Main building in Brattleboro combines commercial space for the Brattleboro Food Co-op on its lower floors with affordable and market rate rental housing above. The synergy this project generated for the city’s downtown was recognized yesterday in Washington, DC when EPA awarded Vermont housing officials the 2012 Smart Growth National Achievement Award for Main Street or Corridor Revitalization.
VHFA’s Sarah Carpenter re-elected to National Council of State Housing Agencies board
At its annual conference last month, VHFA’s executive director, Sarah Carpenter, was re-elected to the Board of the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) Board of Directors.
Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Northern VT announces 2012 Better Homes award winners
Over 250 people attended the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Northern Vermont's 35th Annual Better Homes Award banquet last month. This event, known as the “Academy Awards” of the Vermont home building industry, showcased premier residential and commercial construction projects in Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, Lamoille and Washington counties.
Social innovation award goes to Champlain Housing Trust
The Champlain Housing Trust has been selected to receive a $130,000 grant from the Social Innovation Fund of the Corporation for National and Community Service
Cathedral Square awarded funding for design excellence
Enterprise Community Partner, a national leader in affordable housing and development capital, has selected Cathedral Square Corp. (CSC) in Burlington as one of four host communities for an Enterprise Rose Fellow.
Enterprise has awarded CSC a $144,000, three-year grant to fund fellowship work on a range of CSC design and development projects focused on excellence in senior housing. The fellowship also offers an opportunity to focus on policy issues that encourage sustainability and smart development.
VHFA wins United Way “President’s Award”
VHFA received the President’s Award from the United Way of Chittenden County.
VHFA has won the award a number of times over the years. In 2005, we won the “Campaign of the Year,” the United Way’s top award.
The President’s Award recognizes more than 80 percent employee participation in United Way fundraising, with employee giving of more than $75 per capita.
HUD awards Vermont "Door Knocker" awards
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recognized Vermont with two "Door Knocker" awards for outstanding work in producing affordable housing.
The honors — two of 14 HUD awarded to just 10 states — went to the City of Burlington for King Street Housing (pictured) and to the state for its Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) Capacity Building Program.
