Surveys to help guide Vermont housing policy and planning

By: Leslie Black-Plumeau

The State of Vermont’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is inviting the public to complete a survey on community needs to inform its upcoming HUD Consolidated Plan. Your input will assist the DHCD in developing a new five-year Consolidated Plan for 2025-2029, as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The plan guides the investment of approximately $11 million that Vermont receives annually for three grant programs and $3 million Vermont receives from the National Housing Trust Fund. The survey is available through the DHCD website at https://accd.vermont.gov/housing/plans-data-rules/hud/how.

A second survey will help DHCD, VHFA, Vermont Housing and Conservation Board, and the Land Access and Opportunity Board with developing recommendations to expand affordable housing in and around state-designated areas. Your input on this survey will help refine the top actions identified through interviews and focus groups and play a key role in shaping a report to the General Assembly on strategies for expanding affordable housing options in and around Vermont’s downtowns and village centers.
