richard walegaRepresentatives from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), the City of Burlington and the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) were joined by representatives from Vermont's congressional delegation and others in announcing nearly $290,000 in grants for Burlington.

The Sustainable Community Challenge Grant will help stimulate sustainable and livable communities in Burlington — connecting housing, employment and economic development with transportation and other infrastructure improvements.

The grant is the product of an unprecedented collaboration between HUD and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

The announcement was made by HUD Regional Administrator Richard Walega (pictured) and Rep. Peter Welch at the Firehouse Gallery in Burlington last Thursday.

The $286,750 grant complements the $995,000 Sustainable Communities Regional Grant HUD announced last week for CCRPC. (See our previous post: "CCRPC wins $1 million HUD grant")

VHFA is a partner in the CCRPC grant. The Agency's Executive Director Sarah Carpenter, Research Analyst Leslie Black-Plumeau and Policy & Planning Manager Maura Collins were on-hand for the announcement last week.
