1. Health Impact Assessment: Options and Opportunites in Vermont

The Vermont Department of Health is pleased to offer this introductory workshop on Health Impact Assessment (HIA) – a method for evaluating potential positive and negative health impacts of policy and planning decisions. Participants will learn: • what situations and types of decisions would benefit from a HIA • what the core steps are in conducting a HIA • where to get data and additional expertise • when and how to engage your community in conducting an HIA This interactive session will include a mix of presentations, small group exercises, and case studies to explore how HIA might be used in your work with healthy community design. This is a free workshop open to anyone interested in learning more about using Health Impact Assessment. Morning coffee provided. Lunch on your own. Another workshop is offered on June 26 in Brattleboro. Registration is required. Free. 3. Public hearings on Vermont's Allocation of CDBG-Disaster Recovery Funds

- Montpelier Lost Nation Theater, Montpelier, VT
The hearings will discuss how Vermont’s allocation of $21,660,211 from HUD in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Recovery funds will be spent. Vermont’s Department of Economic, Housing, and Commuity Development will be soliciting comments during the hearings on its draft action plan (planned to be available in late May). The plan must identify the unmet and long term recovery needs of the area’s most impacted and distressed as the result of declared major disasters in Vermont in 2011. These disasters include flooding that occurred April 23-May 9, May 26-27 and in August 27- September 2 with Tropical Storm Irene. More information: http://www.dhca.state.vt.us/vcdp/cdbgdr.html.
