soup offVHFA staff translated their skills in the kitchen into United Way donations during two recent events.   The agency’s long-standing workplace culture of gratitude and generosity coupled with the exceptional culinary prowess of key staff members guaranteed the success of a “soup cook-off” earlier in the month and yesterday’s Thanksgiving dessert auction.

Agency gourmands paid a tasting fee donated directly to the United Way to sample 15 varieties of chili, soups and stews prepared by co-worker chefs.  Despite tight competition, Joe Erdelyi, VHFA’s Director of Development, was the hands-down winner with a mulligatawny that left tasters begging for more.

At yesterday’s Thanksgiving dessert auction, especially intense bidding for a maple-glazed rum cake ended amicably and bolstered the sizeable final bids for the delicious contributions of agency bakers.   All final bids became donations to the United Way.

In recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday, VHFA’s offices will close at 3 pm today and re-open on Monday, December 2.
