VHFA has an immediate opening for a Staff Accountant within our Finance department. This is a great opportunity for a highly organized, energetic, team focused individual. This is an hourly position, working 37.5 hours per week. Primary responsibilities include accounts payable, cash receipts and assisting the Controller in creating, maintaining and updating various worksheets, detail schedules and trial balances in support of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing process. This position is also responsible for all IRS 1098/1099 yearend reporting and other miscellaneous accounting functions.

Vermont’s middle class shrunk from 2000 to 2013
Vermont has lost more of its middle class households than most states in the country, according to recent research from the Pew Charitable Trusts. In 2013, 47.4 percent of Vermont households were middle class compared to 52.4 percent in 2000.
Similarly, the portion of Vermont households paying more than 30% of their income for housing rose during this period. In 2013, 37 percent of households in the state had this level of “burdensome” housing costs compared to 30 percent in 2000.
Number of homeless children rises #172vt
In Chittenden County alone, 172 children--140 school-aged children plus 32 children under age 5--were homeless this year, reported the Burlington-based COTS yesterday. Nationally, the number of homeless children has surged. Today nearly one in every 30 children in the United States is homeless, according to national reports.
