Homelessness among children and teenagers is a chronic problem in Vermont and many other states. In 2011, 838 Vermonters under the age of 18 spent time in the state's shelters, reported the VT Office of Economic Opportunity.

Borrowers nationwide who think they were financially harmed during the mortgage foreclosure process in 2009 or 2010 may request an independent review and potentially receive compensation. The deadline for filing applications has been extended until December 31, 2012.
