At Governor Shumlin’s press conference yesterday, VHFA’s Sarah Carpenter and other state leaders, convened to explain short run effects and long run concerns as the federal shutdown continued into its second week.
Despite the substantial wide-reaching challenges the shutdown creates, most VHFA mortgage programs are not affected at this point. For this reason, Vermonters preparing to buy a home with VHFA financing are advised to work through the home buying process with their individual mortgage lender. Home buyers planning to use VHFA’s Government Insured Loan Program through USDA Rural Development should also contact their lender to discuss whether this option is available.
