The Vermont Department of Economic, Housing and Community Development (DEHCD) will release the 2010 Vermont Housing Needs Assessment at a press event Tuesday, Dec. 22.

The event will be held at 1 p.m. in the Cedar Creek Room at the Vermont Statehouse on State Street, Montpelier.

Copies of the report will be available online as PDF downloads soon.

The study focuses on housing needs of the state’s lower-income households, and examines challenges facing special populations, such as seniors and Vermonters with extremely low-incomes.

It consists of a synopsis and seven chapters devoted to specific housing topics:

  1. “Demographic Trends Among Vermont Households”
  2. “Vermont’s Housing Stock Challenges”
  3. “Availability of Affordable Rental Housing for Lower Income Vermonters”
  4. “Affordable Housing Options for Lower Income Vermonters”
  5. “Vermont’s Growing Number of Elders”
  6. “Vermonters with Special Needs”
  7. “Race, Ethnicity, and Housing”

VHFA Research Analyst Leslie Black-Plumeau and Policy and Planning Manager Maura Collins researched and wrote the report. Communications Coordinator Craig Bailey designed it.

VHFA produced the report under contract for the DEHCD, with financial and technical support from the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board, Vermont Agency for Human Services, and Vermont State Housing Authority.
