The TD Charitable Foundation announced three Vermont organizations will receive a total of $60,000 to support affordable housing: Champlain Housing Trust Inc. (CHT), Regional Affordable Housing Corp. and Windham Housing Trust Inc. (WHT).
Nationwide, 56 winners were selected in the 5th annual “Housing for Everyone” competition, which will award a total of $2 million for housing.
This year's winners were selected as "the most innovative plans that (will) produce a quantitative difference in helping families stay in their homes or help maintain and protect the integrity of neighborhoods from deterioration caused by foreclosure and abandonment."
VHFA Executive Director Sarah Carpenter served on the panel that selected the winners.
"The quality of many of the entries was so high, narrowing the field was a real challenge," Sarah said.
"The need for affordable housing resources in Vermont far outweighs the available resources. Nonetheless, I'm certain the three Vermont grant recipients will put this money to good use serving Vermonters in need of safe, decent and affordable places to call home."
CHT and WHT were also winners last year of a TD $50,000 grant, which they shared with the Central Vermont Community Land Trust Inc.
The TD Charitable Foundation is the charitable giving arm of TD Bank NA, one of the 15 largest commercial banks in the United States.
