June is National Homeownership Month (NHM).
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) started NHM in 1997 as National Homeownership Week, a time to focus on the importance of homeownership.
In 2002, the event was expanded to a month.
More recently, HUD has reduced its focus on the event — the HUD Web site doesn't mention this year's NHM — but that hasn't stopped plenty of others, such as the American Bankers Association (ABA), from continuing to focus on homeownership during the month of June.
The ABA's goal in June is to "provide consumers with information on how to gauge whether the time is right to buy a home, what they need to know to select a reputable lender, how to obtain the best loan to meet their needs, and how to keep their home in these uneven times."
You can find a number of homebuying tips and more at the ABA Web site.
