With jobs to fill in Vermont’s Upper Valley towns, the lack of housing affordable to potential employees is becoming an obvious economic challenge, according to Vermont Business Magazine.  

Residents of Heritage Courts in Poultney are celebrating the recent renovation of their apartment complex. The $3.1 million project was managed by the Housing Trust of Rutland County, which owns the property. The project was funded in large part by VHFA, which awarded both state and federal tax credits as well as loans. This renovation allows Housing Trust of Rutland County to preserve 17 affordable apartments for seniors while significantly improving the energy-efficiency of the complex.

Senator Patrick Leahy joined Governor Phil Scott, VHFA Deputy Director Maura Collins, and many supporters in Montpelier on Tuesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of the 1 Taylor Street affordable housing project. The project, sponsored by Housing Vermont and Downstreet Housing & Community Development, will create 19 affordable apartments for low-income Vermonters as part of a 30 unit development incorporating a new city transit center.

Senator Patrick Leahy and Congressman Peter Welch joined representatives from the Vermont Legislature, housing advocates, and many other supporters in downtown Montpelier on Tuesday at a groundbreaking ceremony for the French Block affordable housing project.

VHFA had a great 2017!

In January, Vermont Housing Finance Agency was instrumental in the sale of nearly $37 million in Vermont Property Transfer Tax Revenue Bonds. Proceeds from these bonds, sold as sustainability bonds due to their intended use, support the Housing for All initiative to construct and preserve affordable housing across Vermont.

Need an affordable apartment or know someone who does?  There are vacancies in 24 different apartment complexes across the state, according to the Vermont Directory of Affordable Rental Housing.

A new report from the Center for Investigative Reporting reveals that lenders across the United States are denying conventional mortgage loan applications for African American and Latino applicants at higher rates than comparable White applicants.

Governor Phil Scott announced Thursday the successful sale by Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) of Vermont’s first Sustainability Bonds.  The bonds sale raised $37 million to fund the “Housing for All” initiative, the largest state investment in housing in several decades.
