Ice Cream Social to Share Ideas about the Future of Chittenden County

With the help of Burlington City Arts, participants’ ideas will be illustrated in real-time, creating a collective mural representing their vision and priorities for the future, which will become part of the ECOS Project’s strategic plan. Meet, discuss, create and enjoy FREE Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. ECOS is a project and a plan for a healthy, inclusive and prosperous community. It is a collaborative effort of 19 municipalities and 40 organizations, being coordinated by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC). Can't make this date? 1. Housing Seniors in Rural America: Resources, Advocacy, & Practice

Learn more about meeting the needs of the growing population of rural, elderly households the Housing Assistance Council’s symposium. Join policy makers, advocates and peers for a 2-day intensive workshop. The agenda will feature discussions on aging in place, home repair and modification, preservation of senior rental housing, issues in HUD Section 202 program, political and funding outlook for senior housing programs, strategies for advocacy and examples of successful practices. 2. Vermont's Allocation of CDBG-Disaster Recovery Funds

The hearings will discuss how Vermont’s allocation of $21,660,211 from HUD in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Recovery funds will be spent. Vermont’s Department of Economic, Housing, and Community Development will be soliciting comments during the hearings on its draft action plan (planned to be available in late May). The plan must identify the unmet and long term recovery needs of the area’s most impacted and distressed as the result of declared major disasters in Vermont in 2011. These disasters include flooding that occurred April 23-May 9, May 26-27 and in August 27- September 2 with Tropical Storm Irene. More information.

Overview of Vermont's Housing Acquisition & Rehabilitation Program (HARP)

Host Mike McNamara will discuss the successful HARP program with VHFA's Director of Program Operations, David Adams. Through HARP, VHFA creates housing and jobs by purchasing, rehabbing and re-selling foreclosed properties to qualified buyers. HARP has helped renovate 55 VT homes since it started three years ago. 1. Advanced Housing Tax Credit Course

This full day training, sponsored by Vermont Housing Managers Association, is intended for senior management staff, developers, corporate finance officers, and others involved in decision-making with regard to how credit deals are structured. This training covers complex issues such as eligible and qualified basis, applicable fraction, credit calculation (including first year calculation), placed in service issues, rehab projects, tax exempt bonds, projects with HOME funds, Next Available Unit Rule, employee units, mixed income properties, vacant unit rule, and dealing effectively with State Agencies. This course also includes a full discussion of major IRS positions. $225/person for VHMA/GSMA or $300/person for non-members (lunch included in fee). More information.

1. Irene Recovery Event

Gilman Housing Trust invites you to join them for a work day to help reconstruct, rehab, clean-up, and beautify properties in the hard-hit Windsor/Windham counties area. property hit by Tropical Storm Irene. The work will include painting and finishing replacement homes, revitalizing recreation fields, restoring bleachers and dugouts, carrying furniture into shelters, planting, landscaping, clearing debris, etc. All levels of skills are needed.
