Public meetings July 27 and July 31 will share information about state's new affordable housing bond program
Staff from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board will outline specifics of the Housing for All initiative, the program funded with the state's recently-enacted bond for housing development.
Legislature passes largest affordable housing bond in state history
With the passing of the State budget and enactment of a bond that could produce $35 million, Vermont is making its largest single commitment ever of state dollars for affordable housing. VHFA will issue the revenue bond and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board (VHCB) will administer the funds statewide to expand Vermont’s stock of permanently affordable housing.
Governor signs bill to promote economic development
Governor Phil Scott signed S. 135 last week, a bill to encourage economic growth and affordable housing. Although the law was signed on June 8, 2017, portions of the bill are effective on date of enactment of the FY 2018-2019 budget. Vermont State Treasurer Beth Pearce (pictured), also on VHFA's Board of Commissioners, was one of the bill signing speakers.
Red Clover Commons ribbon cutting
Executive Director Sarah Carpenter joined Brattleboro Housing Partnerships and other agencies in Brattleboro, on May 25, 2017 to celebrate the opening of Red Clover Commons, a newly constructed 55-unit building for seniors and people with disabilities. These homes are intended to replace units at Melrose Place which were severely damaged from Tropical Storm Irene in August 2011.

HUD Secretary Carson kicks off Homeownership Month!
June is National Homeownership Month, which gives us a chance to celebrate the ways homeownership opportunities have improved in the last year, as well as reflect on ways we can improve in the coming year. To kick off the month, US Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary Ben Carson will be discussing the history and outlook of homeownership at 2pm EDT on June 1st, 2017.
Sam Falzone retires after 38 years at VHFA
Amidst songs, odes, laughs and tears, VHFA staff celebrated the many achievements and enduring friendships of Sam Falzone. Sam is retiring this week, after a distinguished 38 years at VHFA directing the agency’s rental housing programs.
Children's Literacy Foundation has opportunities for rental housing and other service providers
The At-Risk Children grant is open to social service providers, community centers, afterschool programs, refugee services organizations, shelters, low income housing programs, Head Start programs, early childhood education programs, and a wide range other groups throughout Vermont and New Hampshire that serve low-income or at-risk infants and children up to age 12 (or a portion of that age range).
$35 million bond would have long-lasting benefits
