The Vermont Green Building Network (VGBN) and the Vermont Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIAVT) is presenting "Deep Energy Retrofits," a workshop for builders, architects and others, June 19 in Montpelier.
As a follow up to the "Toward Net-Zero Energy Homes" series, this workshop will focus on the deep energy retrofits of homes and other building types.
They'll cover what the nature of the challenge is, where energy goes in homes, and look at the underlying building science. Air barriers and insulation detailing will be illustrated through case study examples.
They'll look at mechanical systems for low load retrofits as well.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own examples and situations for the group to resolve.
The presenter will be Marc Rosenbaum, P.E., owner of Energysmiths, an award-winning sustainable design consulting firm in Meriden, N.H.
Marc, an M.I.T. graduate, is a frequent presenter on sustainable design at many conferences, with audiences that include architects, engineers, construction professionals, facility managers, planners, educators, utility professionals and those in the public sector.
AIA continuing education credits (6 HSW credits) will be reported by AIAVT.
The workshop will be held at National Life in Montpelier, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Builders, architects, engineers, home owners, public officials, construction professionals, suppliers and people working in the building trades are encouraged to attend.
The cost is $175 for VGBN members, $200 for non-members, and $225 after June 12.
