Members of Vermont's housing community released the latest edition of "Between a Rock and a Hard Place: Housing and Wages in Vermont" at a press conference this morning at the Statehouse.

The report indicates the recession hasn’t made finding affordable housing for average Vermonters any easier.

For the last several years, Vermont’s tight housing markets have helped keep prices up while wages have not kept pace. Now, as the recession piles up lost jobs and incomes, the situation has grown more complex and more difficult to solve.

Tickets for HomeShare Vermont's annual fundraiser, "A Taste of Home," are on sale now.

The event, scheduled for Friday, May 29, 5-8 p.m., is an evening of local food and entertainment all to benefit HomeShare Vermont of South Burlington.

Food will be donated by Leunig's Bistro, A Single Pebble, Three Tomatoes Trattoria, Bevo and Wildtree Products.

There'll be live music by Brett Hughes and Marie Claire, cash bar, silent auction and a drawing from all ticket holders to win tickets to see the Red Sox take on the Blue Jays in Boston on Aug. 30.

A group of statewide housing organizations, including VHFA, have formed the Vermont Green Home Alliance.

The alliance, announced at a press conference at the Champlain Valley Expo this afternoon, promotes and encourages "green" building practices in Vermont.

“VHFA's been a strong supporter of energy efficiency and green building design techniques for many years," said VHFA Chief of Program Operations David Adams.

"We appreciate the opportunity that was made possible through the hard work of all our partners to understand and better promote the benefits and importance of green building practices in Vermont."

We made two updates to the Vermont Housing Data Web site this week.

On Monday we did a regularly-scheduled update of the Directory of Affordable Rental Housing (DoARH).

The DoARH is a searchable database of all subsidized rental housing in the state.
