The Federal government is currently working on an economic recovery plan that could amount to $1 trillion.

It's important for the future of affordable housing and the fight to end homelessness that housing is included in that plan.

Our friends at the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) suggest you contact your U.S. Representatives and Senators and encourage them to support a plan that includes several housing-related elements:

Heads up: Our friends at the Champlain Housing Trust (CHT) in Burlington are moving to new headquarters next week.

CHT will be relocating from its 179 South Winooski Avenue address in Burlington to the new building at 88 King Street, a stone's throw from VHFA's headquarters at the corner of King and Saint Paul streets.

Their main phone and fax numbers will remain the same, but direct lines to staff numbers will change as of Jan. 20.

There's also the chance the organization will have limited access to phones and email for the week of the move, so please be patient.

We expect the Web sites of VHFA — www.vhfa.org, www.vhfa.net and portal.vhfa.net — might be occasionally offline today.

We're doing some work on our Web servers, but hope to keep the down time as short as possible.

Once the work is complete, however, we expect our sites will perform faster and more efficiently.
