VT Digger’s recent piece on a new HUD initiative that changes the way public housing costs are funded featured VHFA’s executive director, Sarah Carpenter, and policy and planning manager, Maura Collins.
Both VHFA-ers pointed out the risk of needed public housing renovations continuing to go unfunded. The Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program would provide operating subsidies for eligible public housing units, and allow for public housing developments to compete for private financing, but the concern is the effect of adding additional demand for already stretched financing available.
