Vermont’s Fair Housing Project at CVOEO will begin work with partner organizations to launch a “hearts and minds campaign” about the many advantages to communities of encouraging affordable mixed income housing in locations that are conducive to sound economic development. HUD has announced the award of $125,000 for the project. Ted Wimpey, Director of the Fair Housing Project, explained that “local businesses need workers and customers and aging populations, people with disabilities, people on fixed incomes and all working people need more affordable homes located closer to work, medical facilities and other services and shopping where transportation will not cost an arm and a leg. It is a win-win proposition for all communities. We hope to be on the forefront of helping promote ways that communities can achieve this.” VHFA and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board will be partners working with the Fair Housing Project on this project.
