Ribbon cutting-Ground Breaking

Senator Patrick Leahy and Congressman Peter Welch joined representatives from the Vermont Legislature, housing advocates, and many other supporters in downtown Montpelier on Tuesday at a groundbreaking ceremony for the French Block affordable housing project.

Residents of Windy Hollow Cooperative in Castleton are celebrating the successful purchase of their mobile home park, which was assisted by Vermont Housing Finance Agency. The creation of the housing co-op will help retain affordable homes for 44 households.

Cathedral Square Corporation, affordable housing partners and South Burlington officials came together this week to celebrate the start of construction of Allard Square.

The 39-unit apartment building is expected to be open to residents this time next year, with rents for the majority of units being well below market rate.

Plans were made over two years ago to make renovations to Applegate Apartments, located in Bennington, VT. It's one of Vermont's largest affordable housing developments and threatened by rising fuel costs before improvements were made. The complex paid $175,000 a year on fuel costs, which required rent to rise, and owners were worried that tenants would not be able to keep up.

Governor Phil Scott joined by Executive Director Sarah Carpenter and others on June 5, cut the ribbon on the newly-constructed, 28,000 square foot Elm Place, an affordable residence for seniors, located in Milton.

Executive Director Sarah Carpenter joined Brattleboro Housing Partnerships and other agencies in Brattleboro, on May 25, 2017 to celebrate the opening of Red Clover Commons, a newly constructed 55-unit building for seniors and people with disabilities. These homes are intended to  replace units at Melrose Place which were severely damaged from Tropical Storm Irene in August 2011.

VHFA supported the renovation and expansion of Bradley House in Brattleboro with the commitment of a $3.1 million construction loan and its staff was gratified to attended the project's ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.

Governor Phil Scott joined Congressman Peter Welch, Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger and many other supporters to celebrate the opening of 14 new apartments for people facing homelessness and a newly rebuilt Daystation and Housing Resource Center.  The Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) will oversee the apartments and operate the Daystation and Housing Resource Center, all of which are located at 95 North Avenue in Burlington’s Old North End neighborhood.

Applications for the 2017 round of federal capped (9%) Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and Vermont State Housing Credits are due to VHFA by Friday, February 10, 2017.  Housing credits are the largest source of funding in Vermont for building and renovating affordable rental housing. 

Community leaders and housing partners came together last week to celebrate the completion of renovations to historic buildings in downtown Bennington.  Developed and managed by Shires Housing, the buildings include 26 affordable apartments for low-income residents of all ages.
