The Homebuilders and Remodelers Association of Southern Vermont honored VHFA at its 10th Annual Excellence in Housing Awards Banquet yesterday.
VHFA.org won the award in the "Website, Associates" category.
The association's panel of five judges selected the site out of several submitted in that category.
Representatives from Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA), Vermont Housing & Conservation Board (VHCB) and Central Vermont Community Land Trust (CVCLT) announced Vermont will receive $2.6 million from the MacArthur Foundation.
The foundation's investment — a $600,000 grant to VHCB and a $2 million loan to VHFA — recognizes Vermont’s longstanding commitment to the preservation of rental housing.
The Champlain Housing Trust (CHT) presented awards and selected Board members at its annual meeting this past Saturday.
The event was attended by 150 CHT members.
CHT presented U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders with the Tim McKenzie Award for his commitment to the community land trust model for nearly 30 years in public office.
The February issue of Affordable Housing Finance Magazine — yes, there is a magazine for every interest! — features VHFA Executive Director Sarah Carpenter.
Sarah is the subject of the issue's "Pop Quiz" section, answering a number of questions about her work at the Agency.
Winooski Falls has won the 2008 Livable Communities Award from AARP and the National Association of Home Builders.
VHFA honored Andy Gurley, recently-retired from UBS, for his decades of work with the Agency.
VHFA Executive Director Sarah Carpenter spoke about Andy's long history with the Agency at the 2008 Vermont Statewide Housing Conference, held last Tuesday.

Vermont Housing & Conservation Board Executive Director Gus Seelig wrote a piece that recently appeared in The Burlington Free Press congratulating the Champlain Housing Trust for winning a U.N.-HABITAT-sponsored World Habitat Award.
Gus is also a member of VHFA's Board of Commissioners.
