The Local Support and Community Action Team of the Governor's Economic Recovery Task Force is launching a series of virtual forums for every county across the state. The forums, facilitated by the Vermont Council on Rural Development, will allow Vermonters to meet with a team of state, federal, business, and non-profit leaders and share challenges and ideas for community recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and connect to others working to respond, recover, and build long-term resilience.

Mental health update– June 9

Vermont Statewide Housing Conference cancelled for 2020
Every other November after Election Day for the past 20 years, the Vermont Statewide Housing Conference has drawn hundreds of Vermonters interested in affordable housing together.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made the outlook for large events in 2020 highly uncertain. For this reason, the multi-agency committee responsible for planning this popular conference has decided not to proceed with the conference slated for November 2020.

State announces outreach meetings for HUD Consolidated Plan
The State of Vermont’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is inviting the public to attend a series of community outreach meetings around the state to inform its upcoming HUD Consolidated Plan.
Act 48 stakeholder meeting to be held on December 16
In 2019, the Vermont Legislature passed Act 48, which included asking the State Treasurer to evaluate and report on options for funding and financing affordable housing in the state. This report is due on January 15, 2020.
VHFA to hold outreach meetings on QAP updates
Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) will be holding a series of outreach meetings to seek comments on the draft 2020 Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP). The QAP is a compilation of IRS mandates, national best practices and state housing priorities that sets eligibility and criteria for awarding state and federal tax credits to developers of affordable housing.
Register for FHLBank Boston’s 2019 Affordable Housing Program Training
The Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Boston has announced its training schedule and application deadlines for the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) for 2019. The program awards approximately $20.7 million in grants and low-interest loans through member institutions to organizations promoting homeownership and rental housing opportunities for low income households.
Among the recent projects that have received funding through this program are Lake Paran, an affordable rental housing development in Shaftsbury, Vermont that will break ground in the coming months.
