Events
The State of Vermont’s Department of Housing and Community Development is conducting a public hearing in preparation for developing its 2016 HUD Consolidated Plan Action Plan. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain citizens' views about housing, homelessness, public facilities and services, and non-housing community development needs in the state, development of proposed grant activities, and to review past performance of programs included in the plan.
The state's homeless shelters and service providers will commemorate the thousands of homeless and at-risk Vermonters who received housing and/or services this past year. For more information, contact Linda Ryan, (602) 373-6505.

Local elves help make annual mitten stuffing a huge success
A bus from The Edge Kids & Fitness after school program brought 25 young helpers to VHFA yesterday for the Agency’s annual mitten stuffing. Aliya (pictured) and her fellow elves got right to work in VHFA’s board room, helping to stuff 175 sets of mittens, hats and gloves with candy. VHFA will deliver the bounty this afternoon to the Sara Holbrook Center and King Street Youth Center for distribution to local kids and teens in need.
VHFA sends out a big thanks to all of the knitters and shoppers who donated such high quality outerwear for this wonderful holiday event!
Nerds rule VHFA Halloween festivities
The finance and accounting experts on VHFA's second floor showed their true colors today, creatively attired as a band of geeky nerds. They had the company of most VHFA staff, who joined the fun of competing in the "Best Costume" competition with get-ups ranging from Dumbledore and cat burgler to someone dressed as an HTTP error and another as jelly beans.
From all of us at VHFA to all of Vermont's ghosts and goblins, have a safe and happy Halloween!

Taking a walk becomes a learning experience in Burlington's King Street neighborhood
There is no better way to learn about Burlington's land-mark affordable housing preservation efforts of the early 1980s than to take a walk around VHFA's offices. More than 200 apartments in the King Street area were renovated and preserved as affordable housing through partnerships between VHFA, HUD, the City of Burlington and local housing providers.
VHFA's Multifamily Management Director Sam Falzone realized he could show staff first-hand the benefits of this initiative by leading small-group lunch time tours of the neighborhood. All but six of the apartments renovated through this initiative 33 years ago remain critical components of Burlington's affordable rental housing stock today.
