Join the Vermont Zoning Atlas team and help uncover keys to big challenges like housing affordability and availability. Paid positions for both graduate and undergraduate students are available. These generally entail 10-20 hours each week and last for at least a semester (or the summer), with potential academic credits for an internship or independent study. Vermont is one of many states across the country contributing to the path-breaking National Zoning Atlas.

If you are a graduate student in Vermont interested in learning about affordable housing, the Vermont Housing Fellowship could be right for you. VHFA is currently seeking candidates studying public administration and related subjects for this program for Spring 2024. The program challenges students to relate knowledge gained in the classroom to practical, real-world settings. Weekly projects are tailored to improving and expanding information available to decision makers about Vermont housing markets and opportunities.

Will Anderson joins VHFA as Vermont Housing Fellow
University of Vermont (UVM) graduate student Will Anderson (he/him) has been named the Fall 2023 Vermont Housing Fellow. The Vermont Housing Fellowship program is intended to provide the Fellow with valuable experience aiding his professional development. Anderson will receive a financial stipend to conduct housing needs research and help update information on VHFA’s Housing Data website (www.housingdata.org).
Help build the Vermont Zoning Atlas
The Vermont Zoning Atlas team is seeking volunteers to help complete its build-out across the state. This is an exciting opportunity to join a national data standardization project, be part of a grassroots team and be among the first researchers to work with raw zoning data across Vermont. The project started this summer by focusing on Chittenden County towns.
Alexis Carpenter joins VHFA as Director of Human Resources and Administration
Alexis Carpenter (she/her) of Morgan has joined VHFA in the role of Director of Human Resources and Administration.
Carpenter has nine years of experience working for RDI Corporation in Newport in a series of progressively more advanced roles, most recently as Director of Site Operations. She is also the founder and CEO of Raising Hope, LLC, specializing in organizational culture design and team development.

Olivia LaVecchia joins VHFA as Community Development Underwriter
Olivia LaVecchia of Burlington has joined VHFA in the role of Community Development Underwriter.
LaVecchia is currently completing her Master's Degree in City Planning at University of California, Berkeley and was VHFA’s Vermont Housing Fellow in the fall of 2022. She has interned at a California-based affordable housing developer. She previously worked in the City of Burlington Mayor’s office as communications coordinator and special projects manager, including for the city’s recent major housing policy reforms.
