The City of Burlington’s Community & Economic Development Office (CEDO) has won a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to reduce lead-based paint hazards and address other health and safety hazards in the homes of low-income residents of Burlington and Winooski. CEDO will use $2,475,000 to make 135 eligible homes safe from lead-based paint and other health and safety hazards.
Senator Bernie Sanders explained that “Burlington and the state of Vermont have led the way in terms of innovative and effective programs to make our homes healthier and lead-safe. This new grant will allow Burlington to expand its successful program to correct other health hazards in Burlington and Winooski, to reach more low-income families with children. This is incredibly important given the concentration of older homes with lead paint and rental code violations in these two communities."
