Yoshi Bird, UVM Complex Systems. Trained in law at the University of Michigan, Yoshi returned to academia in 2021 to pursue a PhD in Complex Systems and Data Science at the University of Vermont after a career in homelessness services spanning two states, three Continua of Care, and nearly twenty years of professional experience. As Project Director of the Vermont Zoning Atlas, Yoshi led a team of 36 volunteers, students, interns, and managers to catalogue and geospatially map land use regulations statewide in an effort to better understand and address barriers to affordable housing development and respond to Vermont’s housing crisis. She now serves as the Associate Director of Partnerships Compliance at Code for America, a national civic tech nonprofit helping to build human-centered solutions to public-sector problems.
