Canal Street Veterans Housing, a new $5.6 million building that will provide 16 units of transitional housing for veterans in Winooski, is nearing completion.

Becky Holt, Director of Development & Communications for the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS), says people will likely start moving in in January.

Housing Vermont developed the project with COTS. VHFA allocated $384,300 in federal Housing Credits.

The State of Vermont received congratulations from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) last week for meeting the state's obligation and targeting requirements for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP).

Vermont received $19.6 million in federal NSP money to fund activities related to the purchase, rehabilitation, or redevelopment of abandoned or foreclosed upon homes.

Collin Frisbie (top) of Sterling Construction Inc. in South Burlington was named the 2010 T. Wayne Kondor Builder of the Year. Collin joined his father, Bart Frisbie, at the company in 2005. Bart is Vice President, as well as a VHFA Commissioner.
