Vermont’s Department of Economic, Housing and Community Development (DEHCD) will conduct a public hearing to receive comments on its proposed HUD Consolidated Plan 2012 Action Plan on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM in the Calvin Coolidge room, at the National Life Building North Lobby, Sixth Floor, Montpelier, Vermont.

Responsibilities include staff supervision, compliance with funding agencies and government programs, budget adherence, legal/lease issues, insurance, rent receivables and maintaining successful relationships with local service agencies, our resident population, and contracted vendors.

A group of business and community leaders will spend the night of March 29th sleeping outdoors, on the grounds of the Burlington Unitarian Church.   Run by Spectrum Youth and Family Services, the sleep out is intended to help raise awareness of youth homelessness and increase funds to ensure that homeless youth have a safe, stable place to stay.

Aging baby boomers will change the housing market in ways that have never been experienced before, according to a new report on demographic effects on U.S. housing markets from the Bipartisan Policy Center.    

The report projects the extent of new unprecedented demands for affordable, accessible housing from the 65+ population. It also describes the impact of seniors on the supply of housing, as they vacate their homes.  Although many of their homes will be purchased by younger people, the number of homes left by the baby boom may well exceed the demand from younger potential buyers, particularly in the Northeast and Midwest.
