The Algiers Village apartments renovated this year
in Guildford are just one of the many developments
in Vermont that relied on federal HOME funds.

The federal HOME program provides grants to state and local governments to produce affordable housing for low-income families. HOME funds are a vital and unique source of financing for roughly 25 percent of all affordable rental housing recently developed in Vermont. These projects would likely not have been possible without HOME assistance.

Because of tight spending caps, Congress proposed to severely cut the HOME program this year. These cuts will only make it that much harder for low-income seniors, veterans, children, and people with disabilities to access a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home.
