Gov. Jim Douglas appointed Thomas N. Pelletier of Montpelier to be chairman of the VHFA Board of Commissioners. The change took effect upon the Governor’s appointment Tuesday.
“Tom’s been a highly-respected member of Vermont’s lending community for more than a decade and has served on our Board since May 2008,” says Executive Director Sarah Carpenter. “We welcome him as VHFA’s new Board chairman.”
Former VHFA Board of Commissioners chairman Stewart Ledbetter passed away last Thursday at 76.
Stewart chaired the VHFA Board in the late 1970s, while Commissioner of Vermont's Department of Banking and Insurance.
In 1980, he lost by a narrow margin when he ran for the U.S. Senate as a Republican against Democrat incumbent Patrick Leahy.
Funeral services are set for tomorrow in Vero Beach, Fla.
The TD Charitable Foundation announced three Vermont organizations will receive a total of $60,000 to support affordable housing: Champlain Housing Trust Inc. (CHT), Regional Affordable Housing Corp. and Windham Housing Trust Inc. (WHT).

VHFA Policy & Planning Manager Maura Collins spoke at a monthly meeting of the Vermont Campus Compact today.
She presented some preliminary findings of the Vermont Housing Needs Assessment — to be published in the next couple months — and offered more than a dozen ways for college students to get involved with local housing organizations.
The Compact is a statewide consortium of 17 college and university presidents that promotes integrating public service into the academic, student life and civic goals of member institutions.

There's no shortage of places on the Internet to express your opinion about any number of topics, but this caught our attention: Someone recently posted a topic on the debate site SparkWords, which has generated a dozen responses — some thoughtful, some less so.

The event was a "thank you" to staff for a job well-done over the last several months.
